With a focus on reducing our environmental footprint and creating a more comfortable, cost-effective space for everyone, we’ve made huge strides in lowering our energy consumption. The results? Lower electricity and natural gas use, increased efficiency, and a Library that’s greener than ever before!

One of the biggest improvements came from upgrading to high-efficiency LED lighting. These upgrades weren’t just cosmetic—they were a strategic move to reduce power usage while keeping our spaces well-lit and welcoming.
The result? By 2024, our total electricity use has dropped 30% from 2022! Not only are we using significantly less energy, but our usage is also more consistent, reducing waste and improving efficiency across the board.
The City of Bozeman prioritizes sustainability, and we’re proud to align with its green building initiatives. One key measure of a building’s efficiency is Energy Use Intensity (EUI)
—a score that reflects how much energy a building consumes per square foot per year. For libraries, the Energy Star benchmark is 71.6 EUI—but thanks to our recent improvements, we’ve officially dropped below that benchmark for the first time in four years. In just one year, our EUI has decreased by 30%—a huge step forward in making the Library a leader in sustainability!
