If you’ve ever wondered how best to protect, preserve, and pass on your assets—and even how to make a lasting impact through philanthropy—don’t miss Estate Planning with Dr. Marsha Goetting this month at the Bozeman Public Library. Over three Monday evenings, Dr. Marsha Goetting, a leading expert in family economics and estate planning, will cover essential topics to help you make informed decisions about your estate. Attendees will learn strategies for securing assets for loved ones and explore options for legacy giving, which can support meaningful causes far into the future. No RSVP is needed and this event is free and open to the public.
Each seminar will take place in the Library’s Community Room from 6:30-7:30PM and cover a different area of estate planning to empower you with knowledge, whether you have a large estate or a modest one.
Seminar 1: What Factors Decide Who Receives Your Property After You Die? | Monday, November 18
Many Montanans are unaware that if they pass away without a written will, their assets will be distributed according to the state’s “law of intestate succession.” Dr. Goetting will discuss the implications of this law, how asset titling can impact distribution, and what steps you can take to ensure your property goes to the intended recipients.
Seminar 2: Probate: It’s not as Bad as People Think! | Monday, November 25
While probate may seem intimidating, it’s often a straightforward and manageable process under Montana law. In this session, Dr. Goetting will dispel myths about probate, explain how it can support families, and share tips for reducing its cost and complexity.
Seminar 3: What are Revocable and Testamentary Trusts? | Monday, December 2
Trusts can be valuable tools in estate planning, especially for those with special family circumstances. This seminar will cover the basics of revocable and testamentary trusts, explore how they can benefit minor children or adults with special needs, and explain the terminology often associated with trusts.
